The Department of Mechanical Engineering commenced its journey in 2008 with an initial intake of 60 students. Over time, it has expanded to offer an undergraduate engineering course conducted in Tamil, facilitating an increased intake of 120 students. The primary objective of the department is to deliver top-notch education to undergraduate students while fostering their engagement in cutting-edge technological research across various branches of Mechanical Engineering. Our focus lies in preparing students for diverse career paths in both the technical and design domains, providing them with an immersive educational experience to shape the future's technocrats. The curriculum includes advanced subjects like Process Planning and Cost Estimation, Mechatronics, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Controls, Industrial Robotics, Engineering Economics and Cost Analysis, and Unconventional Machining Processes.
The Mechanical Engineering Department boasts well-equipped laboratories, including Fluid Mechanics and Machinery, Manufacturing Technology, Thermal Engineering, Heat and Mass Transfer, Dynamics, Metrology and Measurements, CAD/CAM, and Mechatronics. These labs house sophisticated experiments ranging from Hydraulic Turbines, Vibration Test Apparatus, and Air Conditioning Test Rigs to Special Machines, Pneumatic Trainer Kits, Boiler Models, and high-memory PCs for CAD/CAM. Additionally, our Computer-Aided Analysis and Modelling lab is furnished with advanced versions of ANSYS and PRO-E Creo software. The department actively fosters industry relations, providing students with specialized exposure through industry collaborations. With a faculty comprising highly qualified and experienced members from renowned institutes and universities, many of whom are pursuing research degrees, the department emphasizes academic excellence. Faculty members actively contribute to research, publishing over 10 research papers in various International and National Conferences in the past year. Regular industry-academia interactions, symposiums like ‘MECHENGENIOUS,’ and a focus on practical knowledge are integral components of our holistic approach to education.
